Wyoma Little League made history this past season, and I would like to thank everyone who made 2013 one of the finest seasons in our 61 year history. We hosted our very first night baseball game in July, and we are looking forward to having the first night softball game this spring. The largest organized youth baseball program in the city, we hosted over 25 tournament games, including district and sectionals as well as continued to host the Sawyer 9 year old tournament with sixteen teams participating in more than fifty games over two weeks in July. Hosting these events generate additional income for the league and help defray operating expenses. We could not have done any of this without ALL of the volunteers that donate their time. You are the reason this league is so strong and viewed as one of the best programs in the state.
I also would like to welcome all of our new and returning families. At a time when children have many sports and activities to choose from, we are thrilled that almost 400 boys and girls between the ages of four and twelve choose to play baseball and softball in Wyoma Little League. Wyoma Little League has served the City of Lynn for over 60 years, providing a positive environment for the development of sportsmanship, character, and athletic skill. Our program puts an emphasis on participation, development, teamwork, family involvement and fun, all while developing an appreciation and love for the games of baseball and softball. As a parent myself, I know what a thrill it is to see your child play for the first time and watch them grow and improve through the years. These are memories that we will all cherish.
Wyoma Little League enjoyed its share of successes in 2013 both on and off the field. On the field, the Major Softball Red Sox and the Major Baseball Indians both brought the Lynn CitySeries Championships back to Wyoma. As a result of their victories, Wyoma will be the host of both tournaments on our fields in 2014. Congratulations!!! All of Wyoma is proud of you. Off the field, two Wyoma players were recognized with prestigious distinctions. Matthew Bloom was selected the winner of the Sonny Man Hill Award, and Meredith MacIntosh was the Wyoma nominee for the Grace Rogato Award. These city wide awards are given to graduating 12 year old baseball and softball players who not only excel on the diamond, but also in the classroom and community.
Call to Action
Wyoma Little League cannot operate without considerable time and effort from our many adult volunteers. Managers and coaches teach the fundamentals of the game with enthusiasm and positive encouragement. Board members oversee all aspects of the league, including umpires, concessions, registration, fundraising, field maintenance, safety, scheduling, rules, and opening day ceremonies. The league is always looking for new volunteers to step forward. Please consider getting involved as Wyoma continues to serve Lynn’s youth and make memories for another generation of players.
